This is the first time that a comprehensive handbook of Old Church Slavonic, using Old Cyrillic types, has appeared in English. Following in the tradition of Diels and Vaillant it is divided into two parts, Grammar and Texts. The grammar deals in great detail with phonology and morphology; and the texts, in Glagolitic, Cyrillic, and roman alphabets (both supplementary to the grammar and of literary and historical interest in their own right), are supported by a full critical introduction and a glossary.
The authors have set out to produce a practical handbook for the use of the graduate and postgraduate student. In the grammar each word-example that occurs is translated, d. wherever possible, reference is made to the texts; at the end is an index of subjects and an index of Cyrillic words which, taken with the main glossary at the end of the volume of texts, constitutes a substantial vocabulary of the language.
This is a publication in the London East European Series of which details are to be found on the back of the jacket.
