Alan Hyža vytvoril koncept tejto knihy dávnejšie. Základom je skĺbenie portrétu s fotografiou krajiny. „Bral som ako výzvu ‚zdokumentovať? a spojiť do zmysluplného celku ľudí, ktorí sú mojimi súčasníkmi a ktorí zanechávajú kultúrnu stopu,“ spomína autor v úvodnom texte. „Kultúru totiž vnímam ako najdôležitejšiu formu prezentácie národa navonok. Aj ľudia, ktorí si navzájom jazykovo nerozumejú, vedia sa cez kultúru dohovoriť. A keďže ľudia v tejto knihe sú originálni a rozhľadení, zaujímalo ma, aké ‚duchovné? alebo najmilšie miesta na Slovensku majú, pretože ich celkom určite vo väčšej či v menšej miere ovplyvnili. Každý to vníma po svojom, preto je tam široká paleta – rodiská, miesta mladosti, krásne prírodné kúty, ale aj obľúbené kaviarne či pamätné historické miesta. Mnohé z nich boli fotograficky komplikované, avšak bola to ešte väčšia výzva, ako sa k tomu postaviť a stvárniť.“

Práca na knihe trvala takmer štyri roky. Vyžadovala si veľa organizačnej práce, trpezlivosti a úsilia. Sto ľudí nie je málo, navyše, mnohí z nich žijú v zahraničí. A k tomu fotografovanie miest. Je ich presne toľko ako ľudí – sto a sú roztrúsené po celom Slovensku. So stovkou ľudí, ktorých portréty sú v knihe, môžu súvisieť stovky názorov o ich opodstatnenosti. Alan Hyža výber konzultoval, avšak rozhodoval sa sám. Kľúč pri výbere osobností bol jednoduchý a komplikovaný zároveň. „Nemám rád slovo ‚osobnosť? v dnešnej podobe,“ vysvetľuje Alan Hyža. „Je sprofanované, ale neviem, ako inak by som označil ľudí, ktorých som fotografoval. Sú to ľudia, ktorí niečo urobili. Zostáva za nimi výrazná stopa, čo obdivujem. Zároveň si ich vážim pre duchovný a ľudský rozmer, vďaka čomu nepodľahli lákadlám súčasnej pseudokultúry. Neosvojili si základné atribúty súčasnosti – gýč, povrchnosť a senzáciu. Mnohí z nich sú takmer neznámi a poznajú ich len rozhľadení ľudia zorientovaní v konkrétnej oblasti.
